A New Neighbourhood in Montoro, Andalusia, Spain
Semester 4, spring 2007
"Vaguada de la Paloma" (the dove's comb)
Site presentation: Located in the middle of the historical center of Montoro, the plot is a canyon with a specific topography which makes it difficult to construct. But the project of a bridge on the Guadalquivir river arriving at the entrance of the canon will change the status of the fault: it will no longer be the neglected spot of the city, but a new entrance inside the historical center of the city. The comb is accessible by one main street coming up from the center, going down inside the canyon, and going up again to the different sides of the site. Program: in order to create a new neighbourhood inside the historical center of Montoro, several units must be created: Project description: The main goal was to insert each element of the program in a way that they create a link between the comb and the rest of the city, raising up the life inside the crack at city level. In order to create that link, each public building is inserted to have a visual and a physical contact with the other public buildings of the city. To create a real entrance in the city, the dwellings are running along the main road in order to create a new urban facade.
